Terms of Service

Effective date: June 11, 2026

Please read these Terms of Service (“Terms”) carefully before using Appealo (“we”, “our”, “us”) at appealo-ai.com. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Description of Service

Appealo provides AI-assisted property tax appeal preparation and filing for residential properties in King County, Washington. Our service includes:

  • Automated analysis of your property's assessed value relative to comparable sales
  • Generation of an appeal petition and supporting documentation
  • Submission of your appeal to the King County Board of Equalization (BOE) on your behalf
  • Status updates throughout the appeal process

Appealo is not a law firm and does not provide legal services. Our service does not constitute the practice of law, legal advice, or legal representation of any kind. The preparation and filing of property tax appeals by Appealo is an administrative and technological service only. If you require legal advice, you should consult a licensed attorney.

2. Eligibility

  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You must be the property owner of record or an authorized agent.
  • Your property must be a single-family residence or townhouse located in King County, Washington.
  • Your property must qualify for appeal under current King County BOE guidelines.

3. Fees and Payment

Success Fee

Appealo charges a success fee of $79. There is no upfront fee. You will not be charged if your assessed value remains unchanged.

Definition of Property Tax Savings

“Property Tax Savings” means the reduction in your property tax liability resulting from a successful appeal, calculated as:

Property Tax Savings = (Original Assessed Value − Final Assessed Value) × Applicable Tax Rate

The “Original Assessed Value” is the assessed value as of the date Appealo files your appeal. The “Final Assessed Value” is the value established by the final determination of the Board of Equalization or the assessor's pre-hearing settlement, whichever applies. The “Applicable Tax Rate” is the effective rate for your levy code in the applicable tax year.

When the Fee Is Triggered

The $79 success fee becomes due within 7 days of the date Appealo notifies you of a successful outcome (i.e., a reduction in your assessed value). “Successful outcome” includes any reduction — whether through a BOE ruling, a pre-hearing assessor settlement, or an administrative review decision.

Payment Authorization

We use Stripe, Inc. as our third-party payment processor to securely store your payment information for the purpose of collecting the success fee. We do not store your full card number, CVV, or other sensitive payment credentials on our servers — we retain only the card brand and last four digits to allow you to identify your payment method. By providing your payment information as part of signing this agreement, you authorize Appealo to store your payment method via Stripe and to charge the success fee to that card if your appeal is successful. Payment is due within 7 days of Appealo notifying you of a successful outcome. If a charge fails, we will retry up to three times; repeated failures may result in your account being placed on hold. Unpaid balances accrue interest at 1.5% per month (18% per year). You are also liable for reasonable collection costs and attorney fees incurred by Appealo to recover any unpaid amount.

Non-Refundable Once Charged

Fees are non-refundable once charged, as the service (appeal preparation and filing) has been fully delivered at the time the fee is triggered.

4. Authorization to Act on Your Behalf

By signing the Authorization of Agency (AOA) presented during onboarding — and providing your payment authorization in the same step — you authorize Appealo to:

  • Prepare and file your property tax appeal with King County BOE
  • Communicate with King County on matters related to your appeal
  • Receive notices and correspondence regarding your appeal

Clerical Error Correction

Appealo may correct typographical or clerical errors (such as parcel number transpositions or address formatting) in filed documents without requiring your re-signature or re-authorization, provided such corrections do not alter the substance of your appeal.

Third-Party Acceptance

Appealo is not liable if King County or the BOE declines to accept an authorization form or filing despite our commercially reasonable efforts. We will promptly notify you of any rejection and, where possible, assist with resubmission.

You retain the right to withdraw authorization at any time by contacting us, subject to the limitations of appeals already in progress with King County.

5. No Guarantee of Outcome

We make no guarantee that your appeal will be successful or that your assessed value will be reduced. The King County Board of Equalization makes all decisions independently. Our service is limited to preparing and filing the appeal on your behalf based on publicly available data.

6. Scope and Non-Renewal

These Terms and the authorization you grant apply only to the specific property and tax year identified in your account at the time of filing. This agreement does not renew automatically for future assessment years. A new agreement must be executed for each subsequent year's appeal.

7. Your Responsibilities and Representations

You represent and warrant that: (a) the legal name and ownership status you provide are accurate and match official King County property records; (b) you are the legal owner of record or possess full legal authority to bind the owner to this agreement; and (c) all information you provide is true, complete, and not misleading.

In addition, you agree to:

  • Keep your contact information and payment method current.
  • Not file a separate appeal for the same property and tax year while Appealo's appeal is pending.

8. Intellectual Property

The Appealo platform, including all software, models, appeal documents, and reports we generate, is our proprietary property. Appeal documents are prepared and filed with King County on your behalf and are not provided to you. You may not reproduce, distribute, or commercially exploit our platform or any materials we produce.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Appealo's total liability for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to the amount you paid us. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost savings from a failed appeal.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Appealo AI LLC and its officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, expenses, or invalidation of appeals arising from: (a) your breach of these Terms; (b) your provision of inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading information; or (c) your failure to possess or disclose proper legal authority to represent the property in connection with this service.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or engage in fraudulent activity. You may cancel your account at any time by contacting us. Termination does not affect any appeal already submitted to King County.

12. Governing Law and Venue

These Terms are governed exclusively by the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the use of our service shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in King County, Washington. You irrevocably consent to the personal jurisdiction and venue of such courts.

13. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, that provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or severed if modification is not possible. The remaining provisions of these Terms shall continue in full force and effect.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by posting a notice on the site. Continued use of the service after the effective date of updated Terms constitutes acceptance.
